Integrated roof, solar, and battery systems for modern Los Angeles homes

Altadena- Solar Installation & Cool Roof (Phase 1)

Location: Altadena, CA

Year: 2025

System: Owens Corning COOL Roof, 8.5 kW Maxeon Solar System

Stage 2: Tesla Powerwall 3 Backup Battery (upcoming)

Homeowner Story:

This older couple has lived in Altadena their entire lives. Over the past few years, they watched their Edison bills climb higher and higher, even though their lifestyle hadn’t changed. At the same time, the foothill community has been hit with multiple wildfires, leaving behind property damage, months of repairs, and a long list of ongoing power issues.

After the most recent fire, their home suffered damage — not enough to lose everything, but enough to disrupt their routines and peace of mind. They dealt with long blackouts, spoiled food, and nights spent waiting for the grid to come back on. All they wanted was comfort again. Stability again. A home that felt secure after everything they had been through.

Going solar wasn’t just about lowering bills.
It was about rebuilding confidence in their home.

UV Roofing Solution:

We began by installing an Owens Corning COOL Roof to replace the damaged materials and give the home stronger insulation and better protection against heat. This upgrade alone made the house feel newer, brighter, and less vulnerable to temperature swings.

Then we designed an 8.5 kW Maxeon solar system to eliminate their Edison bill and generate reliable, long-term power. Maxeon was the right choice for a foothill home — high efficiency, strong performance in varying conditions, and unmatched durability. It gives them clean, consistent energy every day without worrying about the utility rates.

Because Altadena faces extended outages after fire events and windstorms, we planned Stage 2, which includes a Tesla Powerwall 3 battery. Once installed, it will keep their home powered during blackouts, protecting their food, appliances, lighting, and heating or cooling.

This project marks the beginning of a complete energy transformation for their home.

Result

With the COOL Roof and Maxeon solar system in place, their Edison bill dropped to zero, and their home immediately feels more stable and comfortable. They no longer worry about how much electricity they’re using, and they feel supported knowing that clean power is generated every day.

Once their Tesla Powerwall 3 is installed, they’ll have full protection during the long outages that often follow local fire events — giving them the comfort, security, and independence they’ve been missing for years.

A home that once felt exposed and vulnerable is now becoming a resilient, future-ready space built for long-term peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Many homeowners choose to upgrade the roof and install solar together because it prevents extra penetrations, avoids future leaks, and creates a clean, integrated system built to last. We install the solar racking while the roof is open for proper waterproofing and long-term performance.

We install Maxeon solar panels, Enphase IQ8 microinverters, Tesla Powerwall 3, and Franklin A Power 2. These systems deliver strong performance, high efficiency, and reliable backup power during outages.

Yes. A battery can power essential circuits such as lighting, WiFi, refrigeration, home office equipment, and medical devices. Full home backup is also available. We design the system based on your comfort needs and lifestyle.

Savings depend on shading, roof orientation, and energy use. Many homeowners see meaningful reductions and long-term protection against rising utility rates, especially with Maxeon and Enphase systems.

Roof replacement and solar installation each take only a few days. The full timeline depends on your city and utility approvals. We work with LADWP, Edison, PG&E, Pasadena Water and Power, Glendale Water and Power, and Burbank Water and Power. We handle all paperwork and keep you updated throughout the process.
